What is A Course in Miracles (ACIM)?
A Course in Miracles is a self-study system of "spiritual psychology," combining profound spiritual acim teachings with far-reaching and practical psychological insights. It has touched the lives of millions of people since its publication in 1976, and has become a modern spiritual classic. ACIM has also helped to inspire the so-called "spiritual but not religious" movement (SBNR), a growing change in social and religous perspective that has taken place over the last few decades, particularly in the US and Western Europe.
This Course is unique among modern spiritual teachings in that it insists upon a complete reversal of ordinary perception, seeing the physical world as a massive illusion that we project onto ourselves, and teaches that forgiveness is the key to freedom from suffering and fear. It also emphasizes that we are God's love creations, and that our true nature is Love.
The language of the Course is poetic and often expressed in blank verse, which has led many to compare it with some of the world's great literature. Its thought system is intellectually sophisticated and combines spiritual inspiration with deep understanding of such topics as belief and defense systems, the nature of forgiveness, and the relationship between the mind and the body. The textbook includes a daily lesson from the Text, a weekly lesson from the Workbook, and an optional manual for teachers that provides questions and answers to help students deepen their understanding of the lessons.
Ken Wapnick describes the process of learning ACIM as re-learning to speak a native tongue, in this case the language of Love, which we all know how to speak in our hearts but have forgotten to express outwardly. Once we relearn this language, we are able to return to our true selves, which are unified with Love and therefore are always at peace.
In the years since the Foundation for Inner Peace closed, a variety of organizations have emerged to perform various functions, including the dissemination of materials and the organizing of study groups. One of the most successful has been Miracle Life, Inc., which has published a number of books on ACIM and other topics related to mind training, and has an international network of study groups.

Unlike most print editions, this ACIM Web Edition also includes annotations that make it a virtual “Rosetta Stone” for the Course – indicating exactly where to find any quote in any translation. This functionality (and more to come) will make the Web Edition a must-have for anyone studying A Course in Miracles.
Although the Course uses Christian terminology, it is not a religion and does not have any hierarchy or formal establishment. It is a spiritual teaching, offering a way to experience the perfect love, oneness, peace, and happiness that are our natural inheritance outside of the dream.
