A system of beliefs regarding the origin, character, and function of the cosmos is referred to as a religion. Religion may influence how a person views death, the dying process, and the afterlife. In Christianity, the everlasting spirit is seen as departing from the physical body when someone dies. Jews in Judaism consider death to be a natural process that should be permitted to take place. In Islam the passage from one stage of life to the next is marked by death, which is acknowledged as a component of the larger divine design. In Buddhism Buddhists hold the view that past actions (karma) have an impact on present suffering through the cycle of rebirths, with the aim of breaking the cycle and achieving nirvana. In Hinduism, Hindus hold that the soul undergoes a cycle of subsequent lives known as samsara before being freed from reincarnation, pain, and suffering and achieving enlightenment (moksha).
