Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) is a rare form of blood cancer that originates in the bone marrow. A specific subset of this disease, Philadelphia chromosome-positive CML (Ph+ CML), occurs due to a genetic abnormality where two chromosomes swap sections, creating an abnormal fusion gene called BCR-ABL1.
