Choi Ji-Man of the Pittsburgh Pirates

(SEOUL, South Korea (AFP) - Pittsburgh Pirates' Choi Ji-Man, 32, came in as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning, but was pulled for a walk.

Choi went 0-for-1 in the first inning of the Pittsburgh Pirates' 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series home game against the Philadelphia Phillies at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S., on Monday (Aug. 31).

After being left out of the starting lineup, Choi came in when it counted.

Trailing 3-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, he pinch-hit for right fielder Roberto Peguero with runners on second and third.

The left-hander faced Philadelphia's right-handed reliever, Yunior Marte, who started the eighth inning.

On a one-pitch, two-strike count, Choi reacted to a six-pitch slider up the middle before retiring on a grounder to first base.

He was removed at the next pitch to end the game, 한국야동 and his season batting average dropped slightly from .208 to .205.

Pittsburgh rallied for a 6-4 victory in 10 extra innings.
