Joshua Kimmich is looking increasingly likely to stay with Bayern Munich.
"Kimmich rejected an offer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and the Bavarians are aware of this," Germany's Sky Sports reported on Sunday. Kimmich's current contract runs until the summer of 2025. It is now expected that a new contract will be signed," the report said.
Two weeks ago, Germany's TZ reported that "PSG are interested in Kimmich, but it won't be easy to sign him. Kimmich and his family don't want to move to Paris. Also, Kimmich himself has no intention of leaving. He wants to prove himself in Vincent Kompany's system."
Kimmich is a 29-year-old German midfielder. He came up through the Stuttgart youth academy before moving to RB Leipzig, then in the German third division, in 2013. There, he quickly established himself as a first-team regular, proving his quality and earning a move to Munich two years later.
Since 2015-16, his first season with Munich, he has steadily improved his position in the German Bundesliga, making 23 appearances (15 starts, 8 substitutions), often playing on the flanks rather than in his natural midfield role. However, he maintained top-notch performances in a variety of positions, and was touted as the heir apparent to Philipp Lahm when playing on the right.
Having become an all-rounder, Kimmich has been playing as a defensive midfielder again since the 2020-21 season. The number 6 shirt was vacated by Thiago Alcantara's departure that season, and Kimmich, who wore the number 32 shirt, took it. The number 6 is usually an iconic 파워볼사이트 number for defensive midfielders.
He was a regular last season as well. He partnered with Leon Goretzka in the middle of the park, or played right back due to injuries in the defense. His final tally was 1 goal and 7 assists in 28 Bundesliga appearances. Despite the fact that he had plenty of opportunities to play, his relationship with coach Thomas Tuchel was problematic.
Tuchel deployed a back three against Leverkusen in mid-February. He opted for Goretzka and Alexander Pavlovic in place of Kimmich in the middle. A week later, against Bochum, Kimmich was substituted off after 18 minutes of the second half and became disgruntled and argued with the coaching staff.
This raised the possibility of his departure. Kimmich is contracted to Munich until the summer of 2025. He is now a year away from the expiration of his contract and has to decide where to go. He was previously linked with a move following the appointment of Kompany.
However, for now, he is expected to stay. Kimmich took a vacation after Euro2024 and was due to meet with Kompany upon his return to decide his future, but he is not considering leaving this summer as the pre-season schedule has begun in earnest.
